Meet The Founder
Courtney Keegan-Smith, founder of Tru South Moving & Hauling, grew up in a small town outside of Hershey, Pennsylvania, with a population of just 500. From a young age, she dreamed big and sought to make a meaningful impact. That drive led her to the University of Vermont, where she discovered a passion for helping those less fortunate through community service. She graduated with Community Service Honors, actively participated in student government, and took on the challenge of managing all club funds and contracts as the sole financial officer, creating a management system from scratch to handle millions of dollars annually. While at Vermont, she also volunteered at a halfway house, working with children while their parents attended weekly programs, striving to improve their futures.
Courtney’s desire to help others navigate challenges led her to pursue a dual degree program at Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor while simultaneously earning a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Lincoln Memorial University, graduating cum laude. While in law school, she served as the Event and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Community Service Club, organizing events and fundraising initiatives to support students and the local community. She also honed her advocacy skills through bankruptcy moot court, placing in the top 5 for written advocacy in 2024, winning first place in 2025, and ranking in the top 8 for oral advocacy.
Now a debtor bankruptcy attorney, Courtney specializes in helping individuals facing financial hardship achieve relief and a fresh start. Her experiences working with communities, managing complex systems, and advocating for others inspired her to create Tru South Moving & Hauling. Courtney built the company with the goal of making moving, organizing, and junk removal services accessible and affordable for everyone. Her community-driven outlook ensures that every decision—from pricing to service delivery—is focused on helping people, reducing stress, and providing real solutions.
Every Tru South job reflects Courtney’s commitment to excellence: clear communication, careful planning, and unwavering follow-through. Her personal mission drives the company—making high-quality, reliable moving services available to everyone, while giving back to the communities she serves.
Who we are
Tru South Moving & Hauling was founded by a local owner who knows the moving industry from both sides—as a professional and as a customer. After experiencing firsthand the frustration of hidden fees, inflated pricing, and companies that nickel-and-dime customers at every turn, Tru South was built to do things differently.
Our mission is simple: to provide reliable moving, organization, and junk removal services without the financial stress that too often comes with them. No one should feel like they’re taking on a move alone or paying for services they don’t actually need. Professional help is affordable—you just have to work with the right company.
Our team brings over 10 years of hands-on moving experience to every job. Our crews are professionally trained, efficient, and detail-oriented, ensuring your belongings are handled with care from start to finish. Experience matters, and we make sure every client benefits from it.
At Tru South, honesty and clarity come first. Our pricing is straightforward and transparent. Your time starts when we arrive and the ramp drops on our truck, and it ends when the job is complete and the truck doors close. You pay only for the crew you need, the equipment required, and the time it actually takes—nothing more.
You won’t find arrival fees, administrative charges, or surprise add-ons here. When we show up, we’re ready to work, and you’ll always know exactly what you’re paying for before the job begins.
As a homegrown Knoxville company proudly serving Tennessee and surrounding states, we take pride in serving our community with dependable service and genuine care. We treat every customer like a neighbor—because that’s exactly what you are.
That’s the Tru South difference: honest work, fair pricing, and a team you can trust.
Our Story
The idea for Tru South Moving & Hauling started with a move—well, actually, a couple of moves. Recently, our founder, Courtney Keegan-Smith, needed to move just a few pieces of furniture into a storage unit. What should have been a simple task quickly turned frustrating when she was hit with an outrageous quote, loaded with hidden fees. That experience left a bad taste in her mouth—but it was only the beginning.
A few months later, Courtney faced a much bigger move: relocating to another city. She reached out to every moving company in the Knoxville area, only to find prices that were completely out of reach. She could not afford to hire help, and the stress of figuring out how to manage a move alone was overwhelming. It became painfully clear—moving had become unnecessarily expensive and inaccessible for people who just needed a helping hand.
Rather than accept the status quo, Courtney decided to do something about it. She built Tru South Moving & Hauling with one goal in mind: to make moving, organizing, and junk removal services affordable, accessible, and hassle-free. She wanted to create a company that didn’t nickel-and-dime clients, didn’t hide fees, and treated every move as a priority, no matter the size or distance.
Tru South is more than just a moving company—it’s a solution born from real-life experience and a commitment to helping people in the same position Courtney once faced. Every job reflects that dedication: straightforward pricing, reliable service, and a team that treats your belongings with care. Tru South exists to make moving easier, fairer, and genuinely accessible for everyone.
